07/20/2008 - St. Petersburg, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Alex Rios and Marco Scutaro each homered and drove in three runs to help the Toronto Blue Jays avoid a three- game sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays with a 9-4 victory.
The Blue Jays bullpen combined to allow a mere two hits and two walks over six shutout innings in relief of John Parrish, who surrendered four runs on four hits while walking two in his three-inning start. Shawn Camp (3-1) took the win after tossing 1 2/3 scoreless frames.
Adam Lind drove in a pair of runs, while Scott Rolen went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of walks for Toronto, which had lost three of its previous four.
Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena recorded back-to-back solo home runs for Tampa, which took the first two games of the series after losing seven straight games. Edwin Jackson (5-7) was belted for six runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of work to take the loss.
Trailing 4-3, Toronto took the lead for good in the fifth when John McDonald and Joe Inglett reached on base hits before Scutaro slammed a shot over the left field wall for his fourth homer of the year.
The Jays extended the lead to five with a three-spot in the seventh. Rios doubled home Scutaro, who walked to open the frame. The two-bagger ended Jason Hammel's relief effort, and Trever Miller forced in a run after walking three straight hitters. Lind flied out deep to left to bring home the game's final run.
The Jays' Jesse Carlson and Brian Wolfe tossed a perfect seventh and eighth inning, respectively, and B.J. Ryan set down the Rays in order in the ninth to finish off a terrific bullpen effort.
A Lyle Overbay single and Rolen walk set the table in the second inning for Lind, who lofted a base hit to center to put the Jays ahead, 1-0.
Jonny Gomes followed Shawn Riggans' two-out walk in the bottom of the inning with a double. Parrish lost control of a pitch and Riggans sprinted home to tie the score.
Rios pounced on a Jackson fastball in the third stanza, lining a two-run shot to left for a 3-1 Toronto edge.
A pair of miscues and two swings of the bat cost Toronto in the home half. With a runner on first, McDonald rushed a throw to double-up the speedy B.J. Upton after Parrish snagged his comebacker to the mound. The errant throw moved Upton to second, and Parrish tossed a pick off attempt into center field to push Upton up another 90 feet.
Carl Crawford followed with a run-scoring ground out to first, and Longoria and Pena answered with back-to-back long balls to take a 4-3 lead.
Rios kept it a one-run game in the fourth by throwing out Gomes at the plate on Ben Zobrist's fly ball. Gomes beat the throw, but Gregg Zaun blocked home and tug out the runner to end the inning.

MySportsbook.com and Kentucky Derby Offer Bonuses
The 2008 Kentucky Derby has announced a $1-million bonus for this weekend’s 134th ‘Run for the Roses’ and MySportsbook.com is doing the same.
Well, not quite $1 million, but MySportsbook.com is offering a 75% rebate for Kentucky Derby lines. Check out the exclusive horse racing bonus for all the details.
According to MySportsbook.com, the favorites for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky are: Curlin (+250); Street Sense (+500); Scat Daddy (+700); Circular Quay (+750); and Nobiz Like Shobiz (+800).
Derby organizers announced this week that there will be a $1-million bonus at the 2007 Kentucky Derby odds if the first-place horse wins by more than 6 1/2 lengths – the margin of Barbaro's victory last year. The bonus would be divided Saturday among the winning trainer, jockey, owner and a charity, with each receiving 25 percent. The designated charity is the Barbaro Memorial Fund.
''It's certainly creative, it's certainly fun and it has something for the horsemen, which we always want to embrace,'' Churchill Downs president and chief executive Robert Evans said at a news conference. ''What's really cool is it will force us to remember Barbaro.''
Meanwhile, the Derby favorite – Curlin – is going against the odds this year. It's been 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his 2-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned horse worn the blanket of red roses.
Arkansas Derby winner Curlin – unbeaten in three career races – tries to overcome both those obstacles in Saturday's 133rd Derby.
''We're not running against history,'' trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday. ''We're running against who they load up.''
Six other horses have run in the Derby without benefit of 2-year-old races and with three or fewer starts. The best any of them managed was a sixth-place finish by Showing Up last year.
Asmussen dismissed suggestions that Curlin's lack of racing experience could keep him from the winner's circle.
”He exudes confidence and he's got a great presence about him,'' the trainer said. ''I feel great about the position we're in. He's not worried about anything, why should you be?''
The Kentucky Derby is at 4:04 p.m., ET Saturday.
