07/09/2008 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Miguel Cabrera's game-ending two-run homer in the ninth inning gave the Detroit Tigers a come-from-behind, 8-6 win over Cleveland, completing a two-game sweep of the Indians.
The Tigers came back from six runs down and tied the game in the seventh; though in the top half of the ninth, Detroit's Todd Jones took the mound and almost gave up the go-ahead run.
Casey Blake hit a leadoff double and ended up on third with one out. Ryan Garko then hit a sharp grounder to third, but Carlos Guillen backhanded the ball on a short hop and threw home from his knees to catch Blake in a rundown.
Guillen made another nice play to get Andy Marte's scorching grounder for the final out of the inning, keeping the game tied headed to the home half.
Jensen Lewis started on the mound for Cleveland, and pinch-hitter Marcus Thames hit a long leadoff single to left field. Guillen popped up to the catcher, but Cabrera came up and crushed a knee-high fastball over the plate, sending the ball just over the wall in left to end the game.
Lewis (0-3) took the loss while Jones (4-0) got the win.
Matt Joyce finished 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, while Cabrera ended with two hits and three total RBI for Detroit, which has won three in a row. Guillen also drove in a pair for the Tigers. Shortstop Edgar Renteria left the game before the top of the eighth with a mild left hamstring strain.
Detroit starter Eddie Bonine struggled in 3 2/3 innings, as he gave up five runs on nine hits. Casey Fossum threw 3 1/3 solid frames of relief, allowing one run on three hits.
Paul Byrd threw six innings in the start for Cleveland, and surrendered only three runs on nine hits, while striking out five. But he didn't factor into the decision for the Indians, who have lost 10 in a row for the first time since June 1979.
Grady Sizemore went 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Indians, while Jhonny Peralta doubled twice and drove in one.
Facing a six-run deficit, the Tigers got one run back in the home sixth on Renteria's RBI single. But they stormed back in the seventh.
Dane Sardinha and Curtis Granderson hit consecutive singles to chase Byrd from the game, as Rafael Betancourt came in. Clete Thomas worked a walk to load the bases, and Guillen sliced an high-arcing double down the left field line to bring in Sardinha and Granderson.
Cabrera followed by chopping a grounder to short to plate Thomas, making it 6-4, and Joyce tied the game by blasting a belt-high pitch over the right field fence.
The Indians surged ahead with three runs in the first inning. Peralta smacked an RBI double, Blake followed with a sacrifice fly and Shin-Soo Choo punched an RBI single for the 3-0 Cleveland lead.
Sizemore's RBI single in the second brought home Marte, and he smacked another RBI single in the fourth to force Bonine out. Fossum came on to end that inning, but he gave up one run in the top of the sixth. With runners on the corners, Guillen mishandled Jamey Carroll's grounder, allowing Sal Fasano to score for a 6-0 Indians lead.

Placido Polanco was one of approximately 100 people sworn in as United States citizens in a pre-game ceremony...It was Cabrera's third career game-ending home run...The Tigers have won 21 of their past 30 games.
